Mathematics Explained for Primary Teachers By Derek Haylock.

This is a wonderful resource to have on your bookshelf.  It’s a teacher’s book for parents to learn how to teach maths. This book covers the full spectrum of mathematics teaching and is very reassuring and supportive, with practical teaching for the teacher, details of what you need to teach the child, and how to teach the subject. There is even a self assessment section for you to work out what you know and what you need to learn more about.

Using games is a great way to teach maths to younger children. A couple of my favourite games books are listed here:

Games for Learning: Ten Minutes a Day to Help Your Child Do Well in School From Kindergarten to Third Grade by Peggy Kaye

Games for Maths by Peggy Kaye

Instant Math Games That Teach 38 hands-on maths games aimed at 6 – 11 year-olds.
