 PRIMARY SCHOOL LATIN:

Minimus has been taking the best primary and prep schools in England by storm and when you use Minumus you will see why. The aim of Minimus is not to turn children into Classical scholars (although that would be a pleasing spin-off) but simply to give them a taste of a most rewarding and satisfying language in a most enjoyable way.

Minimus tells the story of a real family living at Vindolanda (which is near Hadrian’s Wall) in England at the beginning of the second century AD. Through the family’s various adventures, children get a taste of the language the Romans spoke and which was so influential on the development of many other languages, especially English. Learning Latin helps children to understand English grammar and to extend their English vocabulary.

I use Minimus to teach small groups of children Latin, and I have yet to meet a child who doesn’t enjoy Latin class. (If you are interested in your child learning Latin with me using Minimus, please do drop me a note and we can see if we can make it happen.)

HIGH SCHOOL LATIN:

Cambridge Latin is attractive, easy to use, easy to follow, and with lots of support and resources. Book 1 is set in Pompeii in the time before the volcanic eruption which destroyed the city. We meet characters, see their home, where they work, meet their friends and listen in on their conversations. This course is suitable for starting at about age 12 or 13; it’s a great follow-up course after Minimus, and it’s also possible to work through this course with the support books, even if you haven’t done any Latin previously.
