Books are great for Christmas presents and for Christmas stockings, but often we struggle to find titles that will suit older boys. So I am delighted to have some book reviews from young men. These reviews are from Nathan Campbell. (Thank you Nathan.)
Enjoy!
The Valley Between by Lily A. Bear

“The Valley Between” is the sequel to “Beyond the Trail” by Rod and Staff Publishers. These two books cover seven years in the life of Owen Harding. The reader experiences God’s mercy, grace, love, forgiveness, patience, faithfulness and compassion; as they share in the characters’ lives. The most significant thing for me was how God was so patient with people for so long. These books are worth reading over and over again.
“Hand of Vengeance” by Douglas Bond
Reviewed by Nathan Campbell. Age 15
This book is set in the 7th century during the time of the Anglo-Saxons. It is about Cynwulf who is falsely accused of murder.
I liked the way that Cynwulf finally, after chapters of anticipation, gets justice. And I liked how well the book was written. I also enjoyed Godwine, the monk’s intuition.
My favourite part of the book was when Godwine finally was able to show everybody his conclusions and the truth was revealed. My favourite character was Cynwulf, I liked his character and that he could throw an axe accurately.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes history, and anyone who doesn’t mind anticipation.
“The Tinkers Daughter” by Wendy Lawton
Reviewed by Nathan Campbell. Age 15
Time: 17th Century
Summary:
Mary Bunyan the daughter of John Bunyan is a stubborn and proud little girl, 10 years old. During the book, she will come across hardships and troubles, determined to look after the family all by herself and with no help. But with talking to “Papa”, she finally understands that she needs to give her burdens to the Heavenly Father.
Lesson:
I learnt it is not good to be proud. I can learn from this.
If you have any book recommendations or reviews, I’d be delighted to hear from you. And if your children would like to see their book reviews here, you know what to do! 🙂
